Guitars for Kids
Our website has
valuable information to help you make the best decision
when purchasing your kid a guitar.
We'd be remissed if we didn't first start off by stating
that many would-be guitarist never really get started in
the first place because they have the wrong guitar for them.
Perhaps the guitar they start with has string that are
too hard to push down resulting in an inability to play
clear notes. And also likely is a great deal of pain in
the fingers cause they have to push down so dang hard.
With that in mind the first thing you need to look at and
understand is what is the right guitar for your kid to start
with. Is it a kids electric guitar, a kids bass guitar or
maybe a children's acoustic guitar.
One important thing to remember when purchasing a kids
guitar is that even thought they are a child you do not
necessarily want to base your purchase on the cheapest guitar.
the reason why is because guitars, like most things in life,
you get what you pay for. You don't want to ruin your kids
first guitar experience by investing in something that is
hard to play and sounds like garbage. Don't be afraid to
go to the guitar store to look at all models, high and low,
end so at least you know what's out there.
Now, let's look at each quickly to help you determine the
right guitar for your child that will also set them up to
be successful playing it.
Kids Electric Guitar
Quite frankly these guitars will be the most fun and in
nearly all cases will be easier to play as well. The reason
they're more fun is because they make cooler noises, are
louder and you can make "music" even when you
don't do things quite right.
The reason they are easier to play is because the strings
are closer to the fret board and therefore you do not have
to push down as hard to produce clear notes.
Children's Guitar - Acoustic
For some teachers and parents this is the guitar that they
want their child to start with. Depending on the commitment
of the kid and the parents in regards to lessons and practice
an acoustic guitar may be the way to go.
Just be sure you understand that acoustic guitars are harder
to play and will make practice time more difficult for you
kid.
Kids Bass Guitar
This is a less common guitar for kids but very fun none
the less. The reason they are not as common as the electric
or acoustic guitar is because bass guitars only make the
low sounding bass notes. You can't do all the cool stuff
that you can on the other guitars.
Most kids end up playing bass guitar because they struggle
with the others or they join a band and no one else wants
to play bass. Bass guitars can be easier to play in some
cases because they only have four strings instead of six.
That's why its important to go to a few guitar stores to
check out several different brands and kinds of guitars
for kids to help you make the best decision for your situation.
